UPMASA

UPMASA

The University of the Philippines Medical Society in America

The UPMASA Seal

The present UPMASA seal is an adaptation of the University of the Philippines Seal. The first UPMASA logo was adapted by utilizing the UP Seal modified by adding the "Staff of Asclepius" placed diagonally across the UP Seal. The text around the UP seal was changed to "University of the Philippines Medical Alumni" and the word "America" replaced the contents of the shield under the eagle, and the year of incorporation of the Society, "1980".

Seal

In 1986, Augusto Figueroa, MD of Class 1961 was asked to study the existing UPMASA logo and modify the text "University of the Philippines Medical Society in America" to make it more prominent and readable. There was difficulty in reading the text when it was reduced for the Society's stationary. Furthermore, the irregular awkward shape made it difficult to make lapel pins, banners, etc. Modifications that followed consisted of removing the double lined circle from the first UPMASA logo, placing a double lined rectangle with rounded corners around the remaining eagle, shield, Staff of Asclepius, and making the text more prominent and readable.

This is the seal today.
